Plot and Person The story follows Alice, a girl who fell into a comatose state after tripping down the stairs at a themed sleepover.

The story is told in a mixture of 1st and 3rd person. Alice takes the 1st person role, but when she can no longer speak, her friends, peers, parents and love interest take over the story telling. Retelling Elements What I loved about this retelling was its ability to stand as a novel on its own, without the intertextual elements. It goes without saying, I really loved the small Wonderland parts, when Alice was asleep, and I loved how they disjointedly linked to what people were doing and saying in the real world, but overall, it was a very diluted retelling.

The way I could extract the characters from the original tale made it less predictable and more exciting to read, because Cathy could take it in any direction.

Alice is brave and interesting. She was apprehensive and not entirely gullible, which made me root for her even more. Also, none of the cast were easily defined as good or bad. Romance Oh goodness, I just love a good Cathy Cassidy romance. If only we could all have one in our lives. I enjoyed it immensely, so much so, I read it in one sitting. I highly recommend the story to anyone who loves the Wonderland world, but also to anyone looking for a simply great book, with thrills and secrets and delicious party food.

Alice is a little too Marmite for some tastes, and I totally understand if a certain film or stage adaptation or past edition of the book itself put you off for life. Despite that leap, in some respects Cathy is on solid ground with Looking Glass Girl , tackling some of the staples of her past success — issues like fitting in, bullying and peer pressure, friendship and first-love. But here she gets to do all that in a slightly darker setting, immersing herself into that labyrinth of wrong turns Carroll carved out all those years before. It appears effortless for all the carefully-constructed content, Cathy subtly inter-weaving various characters from the original text into her narrative, suggesting similarities between them and her own creations.

The tale plays with logic , giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. One of the best-known and most popular works of English-language fiction, its narrative course, structure, characters, and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was published in , three years after Charles Lutwidge Dodgson and the Reverend Robinson Duckworth , on 4 July, [6] rowed up the Isis river in a boat with three young girls—a day known as the " golden afternoon ," [7] prefaced in the novel as a poem. The poem might be a confusion or even another Alice-tale, for it turns out that particular day was cool, cloudy and rainy. The journey began at Folly Bridge , Oxford and ended five miles away in the Oxfordshire village of Godstow.
